SOFTBALL SWEEPS BLUE HOSE FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WINS

CLINTON, S.C. – The Hampton University softball team earned their first Big South Conference wins of the season on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Presbyterian College 8-4 and 4-2.

In game one, Hampton got on the board in the first as with one out DaSha Hill singled, stole second and scored on a RBI single by Brianna Anderson.  After giving up three in the bottom of the first, Hampton evened the game at 3-all in the top of the third on a solo home run by Taylor Warrick and a RBI single by Kial Watts to score Anderson who reached on an error and stole second.

The Blue Hose scratched a run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 4-3, but Hampton erupted in the seventh for five runs.  The inning started with a double by Anderson, then with two outs Samyah Richardson doubled in Anderson and she scored on a RBI single by Sarah Kollas.

After moving to second on the throw home, Kollas scored on a single through the left side by Morgan Crawford who then scored on a triple by Kennedy Hickey down the right field line for a 7-4 lead. Warrick drove in Hickey with a single to left to put Hampton up 8-4.
Warrick, Anderson and Kollas had two hits each to lead Hampton, while Allyson Babinsack picked up the complete game win with five strikeouts.

Game two saw Hampton jump out for two runs in the third on a double by Warrick who scored on a single by Hill and a double by Janae Lyles.  In the sixth, Richardson reached on an error and stole second before scoring as Crawford reached on an error.

Presbyterian scratched a run in the bottom of the sixth before both teams pushed a run across in the seventh.  With two outs, Anderson singled and stole second before a single by Watts plated Anderson.

Anderson and Richardson had two hits apiece to lead Hampton, while Allie Hotetz earned her eighth win of the year throwing a complete game with two strikeouts.
