SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A seven-run sixth inning proved to be the end on Sunday as USC Upstate defeated Hampton 9-1 in the Big South Conference series finale.
Hampton got on the board in the first inning as
Taylor Warrick opened with a single and scored from first two outs later on a single by
Kial Watts.  The Spartans tied the game with a run on an infield groundout in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the second on an error. USC Upstate (26-10) put the game away with a seven-run sixth to end the game by the run-rule.
Freshman
Kennedy Hickey went 2-for-2 as Hampton had four hits in the game.
Hampton returns home for a Big South Conference series with Charleston Southern starting with a doubleheader on April 6.
