BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –
Laren VanArsdale paced four in double figures with 17 points on Saturday as the Hampton Lady Pirates fell 70-59 at Gardner-Webb.
Hampton (12-10, 8-5) jumped out to a 20-13 lead after one as
Ashley Bates hit a 3-ball with 93 seconds left in the quarter. In the second, Hampton fell victim to a frigid 2-10 in the second quarter as the Runnin' Bulldogs outscored Hampton 18-5 to take a 31-25 lead into halftime.
Gardner-Webb (12-10, 7-6) used a 12-2 run in the third to take its largest lead at 46-29 on a 3-pointer from Savannah Plentovich with 4:28 left in the quarter. The Lady Pirates responded with a 15-2 run of its own to trim the lead to 48-44 on a put-back by
Dlayla Chakolis with 8:34 left in the game.
That was as close as they could get as a 10-4 flurry by Gardner-Webb put the lead back at double figures with a Jhessyka Williams layup with 6:02 left to lead 58-48.
Nylah Young recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Bates and
MaKayla Timmons had 10 each.
Hampton now returns home to face Winthrop on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
