ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore Nylah Young just missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead three in double figures as Hampton trimmed an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to four but fell 78-69 to UNC Asheville on Friday.

The hosts opened the game on a 9-3 run to as Nadiria Evans hit a layup with 5:30 left in the quarter.  Hampton scored the next eight points to take its first lead of the game at 11-9 on a Nas Nigatu layup at the 3:51 mark. 

After four straight points by UNC Asheville, Nigatu drained a 3-pointer to put Hampton up 14-13 with 1:46 left.  A 3-pointer by Amaryah Corpening gave the hosts a 16-14 lead after one quarter.

In the middle two quarters, UNC Asheville pushed the lead to 16 points as Evans converted a three-point play to lead 61-45 with 54 seconds left in the third.

Following a 3-pointer from Lani Woods with 6:57 left to give UNC Asheville a 69-57 lead, Hampton responded with the next eight points as a layup by Laren VanArsdale pulled Hampton to 69-65 at the 3:30 mark.  The hosts put the game away scoring nine of the next 10 points to lead 78-66 off an Abigail Wilson jumper with 18 seconds left.  Young drained a 3-pointer for the final margin.

Victoria Mason added 13 points and five assists for Hampton, while Shawn Mills scored 10 off the bench.  The same two teams will tangle at 3pm on Saturday to close out this series.
