HAMPTON, Va. --
Gabby Calloway recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs as Hampton fell to Campbell on Tuesday night in four sets. Campbell won the opener 25-19, with Hampton taking the second 25-23 before the Camels won the last two 25-18 and 25-14.
In the first set, Campbell jumped out to a 12-7 lead after a Hampton ball handling error. The Lady Pirates rallied to tie the game at 15 following a service ace by
Jessica Pugh. Campbell scored five of the next six points to lead 20-16 after a kill by Chloe Cook, but Hampton responded cutting the deficit in half on a kill by Calloway. The Camels scored the last four points of the set to win the opener.
A wild second set saw 10 ties as Campbell jumped out early to a 6-1 lead after a kill by Sarah Colla. Hampton responded with six of the next seven points to tie the match at seven following a Campbell attack error. From that point, neither team held more than a two-point advantage. Hampton tied the match at 23 following a
Clara Smith kill and then got consecutive Campbell attack errors to take the second set 25-23. Campbell raced out in the last two sets to early seven-point leads and made that advantage stand up to take the match 3-1.
Clara Smith added nine kills, while Pugh matched Calloway with 17 digs.
Julieta Campana and
Brooklyn Irvin had 14 assists apiece.
Hampton returns to action on Friday night hosting Radford at 6 pm.
