CLINTON, S.C. – The Hampton volleyball team opened Big South Conference action falling in four sets to Presbyterian 25-19, 25-22, 26-28, 26-24 on Friday night.
After dropping the first two sets, the teams went back and forth with 24 ties and 14 lead changes in the last two sets. Hampton came out in the third and took a five-point lead at 22-17 after a service ace by
Jessica Pugh. The Blue Hose went on a 9-3 spurt to get a match point at 26-25 after an attack error, but Hampton responded with the last three points for the set win 28-26.
In the fourth set, the teams were tied 15 times and saw the lead change hands eight as neither team held more than a two-point advantage. Hampton held a set point at 24-22 following an attack error, but the hosts closed the match with the final four points.
Clara Smith had 12 kills for Hampton, while
Gabby Calloway added 11.
Margaret Daramola had seven blocks, while Pugh had 16 digs.
Hampton now visits Charleston Southern on Saturday at 2 pm.
