HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Hampton University women's basketball team returned to action in Big South Conference play on Saturday losing to High Point University 71-45.
Sophomore guard
Madison Buford led the way in scoring for the Lady Pirates with 13 points off the bench. Freshman guard
Jermany Mapp recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Hampton started strong, holding the Panthers to just five points through the first 6:15 of the first quarter. However, the Panthers pushed their lead to 15-8 by the end of the quarter. The Panthers were able to balloon their lead to 15 points with one minute remaining in the first half, but the Lady Pirates cut down the lead to 34-23 heading into halftime.
The Lady Pirates were unable to make up ground, shooting just 31.7 percent from the field, and saw the Panthers' lead grow to 30 points at its largest as High Point cruised to victory.
