Hampton, VA- Hampton University Softball dropped Saturday's doubleheader against USC Upstate.
The Pirates fall to 19-33 overall, 7-17 in conference play. Upstate improved to 45-7 overall, 19-5 sitting at the top spot in the Big South.
GAME 1 SCORE: HAMPTON 0, USC UPSTATE 2
How It Happened:
- Hampton opened with three quick outs after two Pirates walked.
- From a walk to stealing home, Delorenzo put the Spartans in the board first.
- Three quick outs stopped both teams from scoring in the second and third innings.
- The one-run lead carried USC Upstate to the bottom of the fourth inning. Upstate extended the lead to 2-0 on a fielder's choice by Jacquay with all bases loaded.
- Senior Samyah Richardson (Chesapeake, VA) advanced to third base at the top of the fifth but fell short of scoring when the pirates grounded out to the Spartan's short top leaving her on base.
- Senior Emily Workman (8-9) (Kingston, TN) took the loss in the circle for the Pirates after allowing two earned runs and one walk in five innings of work.

GAME 2 SCORE: HAMPTON 0, USC UPSTATE 4
How It Happened:
- USC Upstate took the lead early in the first inning with an unearned run scored by Price on a throwing error. (1-0)
- At the bottom of the second the Spartans added two quick runs to the board, Lanoux and Deal scored on a single to the right by Price. (3-0)
- The win was sealed at the bottom of the third, Jacquay scored the final run for USC Upstate from third. (4-0)
- Senior Kiaya Jeusi (2-8) (Woodbridge, VA) picked up the loss for Hampton allowing three earned runs, five hits and one strikeout.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, May 6, at 1 PM against Charleston Southern University at home.
