Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hampton, VA– The Hampton University softball team dropped today's doubleheader against Charleston Southern at home.
 
Game 1 Score- Charleston Southern 4, Hampton 1
How It Happened:
 

• The Pirates struck first with a run from senior Lauryn Brooks (Bowie, MD) who stole home in the bottom of the third. (1-0)
• The Bucs responded back in the top of the sixth with a run scored by Lewis on a single to left center to tie the game. (1-1)
• Hampton and Charleston Southern battled with ground outs to add an extra inning.
• The Bucs added a few insurance runs at the top of the eighth off back-to-back errors by the pirates, clinching the win. 4(-1) 

Game 2 Score- Charleston Southern 7, Hampton 2
How It Happened:
 

• Charleston Southern was first to strike in game two Friday afternoon, Meckley made her way around all three bases to score the first run at the top of the first inning. 
• The Bucs loaded all bases and scored five runs back to back to take the early lead.(6-0)
• Hampton was able to get some hits in the bottom of the second inning. With bases loaded the Pirates scored their first run by senior Kiaya Jeusi (Woodbridge, VA) on a fly out to right field. (6-1)
• The Bucs extended their lead to 7-1 with an unearned run at the top of the third by Koger. She advanced to home on fielding error. 
• Hampton fought back, and with loaded bases in the bottom of the third a double play restricted HU to a single run by junior Tiera Washington (Chesapeake, VA) giving the Bucs the win. (7-2)

 
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, May 7, 2022 for their final season game at home against Charleston Southern at 11 AM.
