Hampton (3-0) recorded its third consecutive victory with a 17-7 triumph over longtime rival Norfolk State (0-3) before 15,439 at Norfolk's Dick Price Stadium.
Hampton opened the scoring by driving 54 yards on six plays capped by a 27-yard scoring pass from
Malcolm Mays to
Jadakis Bonds.
Axel Perez added the extra point to give the Pirates a 7-0 advantage.
Starting at its own 10-yard line, Norfolk State drove 90 yards on 11 plays culminating in an 11-yard scoring pass from Otto Kuhns to Da'Quan Felton with 2:31 left in the opening quarter to know the score at 7.
After a scoreless second quarter, Hampton tallied another touchdown when
Romon Copeland hauled in a 75-yard pass from freshman
Christopher Zellous to put the Pirates ahead, 14-7.
Perez closed out the scoring booting a 24-yard field goal with 4:04 left in the contest to seal the victory for the Pirates.
