The Lady Pirates Battle in 3-1 Loss at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2023) – The Lady Pirates battled in a tough 3-1 loss against the Campbell Camels on Saturday afternoon. It ended (22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25).

The Lady Pirates posted their most kills in a match this season with 37 and Kristine Teivane led Hampton with a season-high of 11. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues and Madison Clark each had six. Nadja Bulatovic posted 19 assists, her most ever in a Lady Pirate uniform. Bulatovic notched two aces and Teivane had one.

Kylah Hunter achieved a career-high in digs on the day with 18. Teivane recorded a season-high 13, and Clark had nine. Hampton led Campbell in blocks (6-5), anchored by Rickelle Wescott's season-high of four. Clark notched three and Rodrigues two.

How it Happened

Set 1

The Camels jumped out to an early lead (8-3) in the first. Throughout the set, The Lady Pirates slowly crawled back and made it competitive. A 5-0 run (four kills and one attacking error by Campbell)  put Hampton behind by one at 16-18. They tied the game at 21 by forcing an attacking error by the Camels. The next three points went to Campbell and they won it 25-22. Teivane recorded six kills in the set.

Set 2

The second set started with each team going back and forth as the score was tied at 12. In just seven points, Campbell had taken a commanding lead (18-13). They stretched it to six at 20-14. The Lady Pirates refused to give up and mustered a 4-point run to cut the lead down to two. Hampton won seven of the last 10 points and Nadja Bulatovic closed out the set with two aces (25-23). The Lady Pirates recorded 16 digs in the set.

Set 3

The teams battled again as the third set kicked off. The Lady Pirates won three straight and led 5-4. Then, the Camels strung four points together and then seven out of the next eight (15-6). Hampton got within six but couldn't come all the way back as it ended 25-17. Hunter had five digs and Teivane four.

Set 4

The Lady Pirates broke out to an early 4-0 lead to start the fourth. Campbell tied the score at six. Hampton trailed by one (12-13) when the Camels rattled off five straight. Hampton cut the lead to four but the Camels surged and won the final set 25-18. Four different Lady Pirates recorded a block on the fourth.
