Hampton Women’s Soccer Fall at Home to Monmouth

NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 17, 2023) … Hampton women's soccer returned home for a CAA match facing the Monmouth Hawks. With the Lady Pirates offensive woes continuing, Monmouth prevailed 5-0.

How it Happened

Early on in the match, Hampton found themselves trailing early. The Hawks would strike first in the 11th minute. After Monmouth produced the opening goal of the contest, HU kept the Hawks off the scoreboard. The Lady Pirates could not create strong enough advances to start producing shots.

With the Hawks winning the possession battle, Hampton's backline and keeper faced continuous pressure. During the final 15 minutes of the half, Monmouth found the back of the net three times. Before heading into the half, the Lady Pirates were starting to build a strong attack. With HU committing a foul Monmouth regained possession before the buzzer rang.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Maya Martir was able to get a shot off. Martir's chance tracked towards the goal but just missed the post. With physicality picking up in the final 45, Keri Geter picked up a yellow card in the 63rd minute. The Hawks were able to score once more before the end of the contest. MU's speed on the wings where able to get by Hampton's defenders. 

What's Next

The Lady Pirates begin a two-game road trip facing Northeastern on Sunday, September 24. The match is set to start at 1:00 PM and will be streamed on FloFC.
