Lady Pirates Open Two-Game Road Trip with a Loss to Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. - Hampton University women's soccer began their two-game road trip this afternoon facing the Huskies of Northeastern. While the weather would not be ideal, Northeastern jumped out to an early lead. HU desperately tried to get back into the match, but could not find the back of the net. 

How it Happened

The Lady Pirates started out the match winning the possession battle. While HU would not enter the Huskies' attacking third, Hampton was waiting to take advantage of a mistake made by Northeastern. However, in the sixth minute, NU's offense started to click finding space in the channels. With two goals in a minute, the Lady Pirates found themselves trailing.

Hampton later on in the half was able to produce their first shot of the match. Evan-Nicole Whitaker found Madisyn Strange inside the penalty box. With Strange's move made on the keeper, she would find Mattie Edozie for a strong chance. Edozie's shot failed to find the back of the but just missed high. Before the end of the half, Northeastern produced six more goals making it 8-0. 

Coming out of the half the Huskies' offensive surge continued finding the back of the net twice. The Lady Pirates Alexis Deveaux etched her name in the program's record book. With a save in the 76th minute, Deveaux recorded her 100th save of the 2023 season. She is the second player in program history to have 100 or more saves in a single season. Hampton desperately tried to trim NU's advantage before the final horn but could not score. 

What's Next

Hampton women's soccer will be back in action on Thursday, September 28th at Elon. Thursday's match is set to kick off at 7:00 PM and will be available on FloFC.
