Lady Pirates Fall In Game One to the Pride

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (April 26, 2024) … Hampton University softball team opened up the three-game series against Hofstra with a 6-1 loss. The Pride had a dominant outing on the mound producing 12 strikeouts. The Lady Pirates bats were held to only three hits. Hofstra jumped out to an early lead and did not look back. Hampton did start to dig into the Pride's advantage late. However, Hofstra was able to hold HU's offense quiet in the final inning. 

The Pride were able to strike first in the second frame. Hofstra had a baserunner on first and second before Hampton could record an out. The Lady Pirates were able to get back-to-back outs. Hofstra produced consecutive singles bringing in three runs. At the bottom of the third, the Pride continued to build upon its early advantage. Before Hampton recorded an out Hofstra brought in a run on single to center field.  With the Lady Pirates committing two errors in the third, another run came across the plate making it 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth frame, the Pride scored another run. The Lady Pirates offense started to find its rhythm in the sixth. Kylee Quinn began the stanza with a single to the outfield.  Camryn Thompson was able to advance Quinn to third on a bunt. Thompson with her speed gave Hampton baserunners on first and third. A double steal by the Lady Pirates cut the Pride's lead down to five.

Hampton kept Hofstra's offense quiet in the sixth. While the Pride manufactured two quick outs in the seventh, Leah Maduro reached first on a base knock to center field. Hofstra would pick up the final out ending the contest. The Lady Pirates are back in action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
