Hampton Softball Drop Second Contest With Campbell

HAMPTON, Va. (April 6, 2024) … The Lady Pirates fell to the Campbell this afternoon 9-0 in five innings. While HU only committed one error, the Camels bats continued to produce recording 11 hits. Hampton in the bottom of the second had a solid opportunity to get a run on the board. However, after an early double Campbell would get out of the jam.

Early on in the contest, the Lady Pirates faced pressure from CU's offense. Hampton got the game started with back-to-back outs. The Camels had an early baserunner in scoring position. After the two quick outs, Campbell rattled off consecutive base knocks. HU would get out of the frame on a flyout to centerfield.

The Camels struck first in the top half of the second inning. With three straight hits, CU jumped out to a 2-0 advantage. Before the end of the stanza, three more runs came across the plate for Campbell. Hampton in the bottom of the second produced an early baserunner. Freshman Leah Maduro recorded a double to right field giving HU its first hit of the afternoon. Kylie Hill on an infield single advanced Maduro to third putting pressure on the Camels. With a groundout to third Campbell got out of the frame.

Both Taryn Bennett and CU's Isabella Smith pitched scoreless innings. During this stretch, neither pitcher gave up a hit. Campbell's bats in the top of the fifth caught fire once more. In the fifth inning alone the Camels produce five hits. Hampton would record two quick outs to start off the frame. With Campbell tallying five consecutive hits four more runs came across the plate.

Hampton returns to action tomorrow at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium. The first pitch for game three with the Camels is set for noon.
