PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (September 14, 2024) – The Lady Pirates dropped their first match of the Henson Hawk Invitational to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. The score was 3-0 with the sets ending 25-15, 25-22, and 25-14.
Madison Clark led all individuals in kills with 10.
Morgan Warren was the primary setter for Hampton, tallying 20 assists. Clark posted two aces, and
Ada Bulgur and
Kylah Hunter each had one.
On the defensive side of the net, Warren earned the most digs with 10. Clark and Bulgur followed at nine and eight.
Shachia Lamb and
Maria Clara De Andrade posted a block.
In the first set, each team went back and forth with the score tied at three. Although the Bulldogs took four of the next five points, Hampton was only down one at 7-6. UNC Asheville earned 11 of the next 12 and secured the set 25-15. Clark notched five kills in the set.
The second set started like the first. The Lady Pirates trailed 6-5 but then went on a 5-1 run to jump ahead 10-7. UNC Asheville retook the lead at 13-12 just for Hampton to regain it at 16-14. Both teams produced short runs, but the score was still tied at 21. The Bulldogs snuck by and snatched the set 25-22. Five Lady Pirates recorded a dig in the set including Clark with five.
Hampton leapt to an early 11-7 lead in the third and stretched it to five at 13-8. The Bulldogs then ended the set on a 17-1 run (25-14). Six different Lady Pirates notched a kill.

The Lady Pirates will play two more matches as a part of the Henson Hawk Invitational tomorrow. The first is against Iona at 2:00 p.m., followed by a match against the host school UMES at 6:00 p.m.
