PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (September 15, 2024) – The Lady Pirates fell in their two matches this afternoon in Hytche Arena in Princess Anne, Md.
Hampton battled against Iona in the first match, despite falling 3-0. The sets ended 25-15, 25-23, and 27-25.
The second match was a five-set thriller against the host school Maryland Eastern Shore. Those sets ended 26-24, 25-8, 14-25, 19-25, and 8-15.
First Match
Madison Clark led Hampton in kills with nine, followed by teammates
Ada Bulgur and
Cortni Adams with seven each. Warren posted the most assists at 21.
Rhisen Davis and
Madison Clark each notched an ace.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Kylah Hunter earned 10 digs and Clark had three blocks.
In set one, the Lady Pirates fell behind early, as the Gaels took an early 6-1 lead. The Lady Pirates brought the score within two multiple times throughout the set, but could not regain the lead (25-15). Iona jumped out to another early lead in the second set at 11-4 and 21-12. The Lady Pirates trailed 24-17, before fending off six set points. The Gaels snatched the set at 25-23. The third set went down to the wire. Neither team led by more than three points. Hampton held the lead at 22-20 and had set point opportunities at 24-23 and 25-24, but Iona gained the final three point and stole the set 27-25.
Second Match
Clark led the Lady Pirates in kills at 12. Warren set a career in assists with 25. Clark notched a career-high in aces in one match with six.
Defensively, Hunter posted 10 digs and
Shachia Lamb and Clark each had four blocks.
The first set was full of runs by both teams. Each squad had multiple runs of three or more points. Hampton led at 23-20, just to watch the Hawks take the next four. The Lady Pirates rallied by taking the final three points to claim their first set of the season (26-24).
Hampton dominated set two. A quick 5-4 advantage turned into a 16-4 lead after an 11-0 run, their longest of the season (25-8).
The Hawks responded in the third set by opening up the set ahead 7-4 and then 16-9. Hampton could not come back and the Hawks ended the set on a 3-0 run (25-14). In the fourth set, the score was tied at eight and then again at 14. The Hawks used a 7-0 run at the end of the set to claim the fourth (25-19). The fifth and final set did not go Hampton's way. The Hawks jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and the Lady Pirates were unable to recover (15-8).
