Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Sinks Pirates In Senior Day Loss To Northeastern

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 19, 2025) … A corner kick goal from Ava Gialanella in the 78th minute off a feed from Lauren Dupont proved to be the game-winner as Northeastern edged Hampton 2-1 in CAA Women's Soccer action at Powhatan Field Sunday.

Following a scoreless first half that saw each team with six shots and each goalie with three saves, the drought was snapped at 53:45 when Lughano Nyondo gave the guests a 1-0 lead off a free kick. Gialanella served the free kick into the 18-yard box and Lauren Ahles played it to Nyondo for the first goal.

Hampton (5-10-1, 0-7-0) didn't waste time answering back as they scored 37 seconds later on a free kick as Makayla Wade's low line drive found its way to Jayda Sutton who touched it into the back of the net to even the match at 1-1 at 54:22.

Each team had a couple chances to break that deadlock over the next 20 minutes, but Northeastern (3-8-5, 2-4-2) found the go-ahead goal as Dupont served a corner kick in and Gialanella found the back of the net off it at 77:42.

On the contest, Northeastern held a 13-12 advantage in shots and each team recorded six shots on goal. Avery John made four saves for the Pirates.

Hampton closes out its home schedule on Thursday hosting Elon at noon at Powhatan Field.
