HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 27, 2025) … The Hampton University men's and women's tennis teams will head to Farmville, Virginia on Friday to take on former conference foe Longwood University starting at 2 p.m. at the New Lancer Courts.
Hampton's men are 0-4 after falling 4-1 at Mt. St. Mary's on Sunday.
Donte Armbrister leads the Pirates in singles through four matches with a 3-1 record at No. 1, the last two of those being three-set victories.
Yanozie Amadike is next with a 2-2 mark at No. 2.
The Hampton women are 1-1 after knocking off Mt. St. Mary's 4-1 on Sunday in Maryland.
Diana Starodubtseva has won both her singles matches at No. 1, while Meri Okuwaki,
Masa Mitic and
Serena Bryan have split their two matches thus far. In doubles, Mitic and Okuwaki were named the Coastal Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week as they won their match against Mt. St. Mary's and Mitic had the clinching point in singles.
Longwood men are 1-4 with a match on Thursday against N.C. Central before hosting the Pirates. Timeo Puech is 4-0 this spring at No. 1 to lead the Lancers, while in doubles he and Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva are 2-0 at No. 1 this spring.
The women for Longwood are 3-3 after defeating UNC Greensboro 4-3 on February 15. Phoebe Mitchell is 3-2 at No. 4 to lead the team in singles, while she and Oriana Izarra are 2-0 at No. 3 doubles to top the team.
Hampton will have its first home match of the year on Sunday as the women will face N.C. Central at noon.
