Hampton Falls to the Elon Phoenix in Five Innings 13-1

HAMPTON, Va. (March 14, 2025) … Hampton University softball team began its three-game series afternoon against the Elon Phoenix. Coach Tarvin's side fell to the Phoenix 13-1 in give frames. While the Pirates bats produced a hit per inning, HU was held to only one run. The Phoenix jumped out to a 7-0 advantage through the first three frames. Elon's bats caught fire in the top of the fifth.  

In the top of the first, Elon got a run on the board on a groundout to the pitcher. The Phoenix kept the frame alive by taking advantage of an error made by the Pirates. A throwing error by HU allowed the final run of the stanza to score. 

With three more runs coming across the plate in the top of the second for Elon, the Phoenix jumped out to a five-run lead. The Pirates started off the second inning strong with an early baserunner. Hampton's Kylie Hill was able to reach first base on a fielding error by the Phoenix. Elon got out of the frame with three consecutive outs. The Phoenix pitcher McKenna McCard tallied two strikeouts during this stretch. 

Elon's bats continue to produce growing the Phoenix lead to seven. Aitirhna Aiken and Kylee Quinn recorded the Pirate's first hits of the afternoon in the bottom of the third. While Hampton had a baserunner in the scoring position, HU could not produce a run. 

During the top of the fifth, Elon's offense continued to record runs. With six hits the Phoex brought in six more runs making it 13-0. Meagan Ramos manufactures a single in the bottom half of the frame. Quinn with her second hit of the day scored a run for the Pirates. With two outs on the board, Elon got out of the stanza on a ground out.

Hampton University softball continues the series against Elon tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
