HAMPTON, Va. (March 16, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team ended its three-game series with the Elon Phoenix this afternoon. HU fell in five innings to Elon 20-9. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Elon's offense caught fire in the third helping the Phoenix take control of the contest.

Aitirhna Aiken began the bottom of the first with a double to the outfield. Kylie Hill scored the Pirate's first run with a single down the left-field line. Freshman Cassidy Lee cleared the bases on a triple to make it 3-0. Before the end of the stanza, Coach Cat Tarvin's side scored once more.

While the Phoenix cut into Hampton's lead at the top of the second, Elon's offense found its rhythm in the third frame. In the third inning alone, the Phoenix produced eight hits and 10 runs. Elon did most of its damage with only one out on the board. The Phoenix manufactured three consecutive home runs to gain the advantage 5-4. Before the end of the stanza, Elon grew its lead to seven.

The Pirates quickly responded in the bottom half of the third inning. Lee with her second hit of the afternoon put runners on first and third for HU. With a passed ball Hampton started to dig into Elon's lead. Four more runs came across the plate for the Pirates. Heading into the fourth frame Hampton only trailed the Phoenix 11-9.

Elon scored once more in the fourth frame. The Phoenix bats caught fire again at the top of the fifth. Elon jumped out to an 11-run lead producing seven hits in the final stanza.
