Hampton Softball Defeats Drexel In Extra Innings 14-10

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 22, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team secured its second conference win of the 2025 campaign. Coach Cat Tarvin's squad defeated the Drexel Dragons 14-10 in 10 innings. The Pirates did not commit a single error and recorded a season-high 23 hits. Hampton in the final two frames produced eight runs.

Hampton's offense got off to a strong start in the first stanza. Kylie Hill continued to hit the ball well with a single through the left side making it 1-0. Leah Maduro followed up the base knock with a hit to the outfield putting baserunners on second and third. Freshman Cassidy Lee came up clutch for the Pirates. Lee produced her first collegiate home run putting HU up 4-0.

Drexel cut the Pirate's advantage in half during the bottom of the first. The Dragons took control of the contest in the second inning. Drexel began the frame with a double down the left-field line. The Dragons tied up the game 4-4 with consecutive base knocks. Before the end of the inning, a sacrifice fly and a single up the middle put Drexel ahead of Hampton 6-4.

While both teams got the bats going early, neither side scored until the top of the seventh. Down to its final three outs, Hampton brought two runs across the plate. Amani Johnson and Carmynn Bonner manufactured base hits. While Quinn grounded out, she advanced the baserunners putting them both in scoring position. Maduro tied the game 6-6 on a single to the outfield. In the bottom half of the frame, the Pirates recorded three straight outs to force extra innings.
