HAMPTON, Va. (March 27, 2025) … Following a two-week break after their Spring Break trip to Florida, the Hampton University men's tennis team returns to action with a weekend road trip.
On Friday, the Pirates visit Greensboro, N.C. to tangle with the N.C. A&T Aggies in a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchup starting at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. From there, they will head to Danville, Va. to face Averett University on Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. match at the Averett Tennis Courts.
ABOUT THE PIRATES
Hampton jumps back into its spring schedule with a 3-8 record and an 0-1 mark in CAA play. The Pirates won their last match in Florida on March 13 with a 4-3 victory over Vassar College.
Donte Armbrister leads the team this spring with a 6-4 mark in singles at the No. 1 spot, while
Yanozie Amadike,
Benedict Badza and
Kevin Jorquera all have three wins. Doubles has the duo of Armbrister and
Marko Stoilkovski leading with a 5-1 mark at No. 3, while Amadike and Badza are 4-1 at No. 2.
The Pirates defeated Norfolk State (4-3) and Chowan (4-0) on March 6 for their other wins so far this spring.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
N.C. A&T is currently 12-2 on the season and faces UNC Greensboro (March 27) before hosting the Pirates. This match with the Pirates will be one of two CAA matches for the Aggies as they visit Campbell on April 11.
Jindrich Bill sports a 10-1 mark to lead the Aggies with the majority of his wins coming at the No. 5 spot. Said Akbarov is 10-2 with most of his wins coming at the No. 4 spot in singles. As a team, the Aggies are 54-19 in singles matches this season. In doubles, the Aggies are topped by Brill and Lucas Coupu-Moison who are 8-2 mostly at No. 2, while Akbarov and Ian Pedersen are 7-2 mostly at No. 1 and the duo of Kaua Santos and Mathieu Dussaubat are 7-4 mainly at No. 3.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Averett enters the weekend with a 6-2 mark and will host Centre College on Thursday before entertaining the Pirates.
Rafael Jodas has a 10-2 record to lead Averett in singles, while Jaeden Mukkaladyil is 9-3 and Prabjeet Chandhok is 7-5. In doubles, Sam Egui and Rafael Jodas have the best record at 6-2, with Florian Bert and Alex Donnelly are 5-2.
The Cougars have won four straight matches and have only lost to Salilsbury (5-2) and Mary Washington (7-0).
