HAMPTON, Va. (March 31, 2025) … The Battle of the Bay resumes on the tennis courts Tuesday afternoon as Hampton will visit Norfolk State for men's and women's matches starting at noon.
These teams met back on March 6 with Hampton sweeping Norfolk State as the men won 4-3 and the women won 4-1.
Hampton's men (3-10) return to action after falling 4-2 at Averett on Saturday.
Donte Armbrister has the best record in singles sporting a 7-5 mark at the No. 1 spot. In doubles, Armbrister and
Marko Stoilkovski are 6-2 at the No. 3 spot and the duo of
Benedict Badza and
Yanozie Amadike are 4-2 at No. 2.
Hampton's women (5-5) are coming off a tough 7-0 loss at East Carolina on Sunday. Diana Starodubtseva sports a 7-2 mark at No. 1 singles, while Meiri Okuwaki and Serena Bryan are 6-2 at No. 2 and 3 spots respectively. In doubles, Starodubtseva and Bryan are 5-3 at No. 1.
Norfolk State's men (10-7) have won six matches in a row after sweeping the MEAC Round-up last weekend in Washington, D.C. Frederick McRae leads the Spartans in singles with a 14-4 record, while in doubles McRae and Jakub Solarski sport a 7-2 mark.
Norfolk State's women (10-8) have won four out of their last five matches after going 3-1 at the MEAC Roundup last weekend in Washington, D.C. Yulia Yurkova leads NSU in singles with a 9-3 record, while in doubles, Yurkova and Sofiya Tsitavets are tops with a 5-2 mark.
