CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 7, 2025) … Charleston broke a 4-4 tie by scoring five runs in the sixth inning to post a 9-4 victory over Hampton at Patriots Point in South Carolina. The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning and broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth frame by pushing another run across the plate before the Cougars stormed back. The game was the opening game of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the schedule for both teams.
The Pirates jumped on Cougar pitcher Kendall Thackston for three runs in the opening frame.
Carmynn Bonner, who leads the CAA in hitting, doubled in
Cassidy Lee for Hampton's first run.
Santrea Armstead then singled in Bonner and Armstead scored on a Cougar error in a 25-minute top of the first.
Charleston pushed a run across in the second inning and two more in the third to tie the score.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Charleston broke through with a five-run sixth inning to go ahead 9-4.
Jada Evans (3-5) absorbed the loss yielding 11 hits and six earned runs while pitching a complete game for the Pirates. Evans has a 2.20 earned run average. Lily Thorpe (1-0) was credited with the win in relief.
Despite the cold and windy afternoon, the Hampton women's basketball team made an appearance to cheer on the Pirates. Coach Tamisha Augustin's squad was in town preparing to take on Charleston in the final regular-season game of the basketball season on Saturday.
Bonner continued her hot hitting going 2-4 with a batting average of .500 for the season.
With heavy rains in the forecast for Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
