Cougars Sweep Pirates In CAA Softball Doubleheader Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 8, 2025) … The homestanding College of Charleston Cougars swept a Coastal Athletic Association doubleheader from Hampton winning game one 10-2 and game two 7-1 on Saturday at Patriots Point.

GAME 1 - College of Charleston 10, Hampton 2
After scoring a run on a sacrifice fly in the first, Charleston put up four runs in the third taking advantage of a pair of Hampton errors.  Sierra Paradis reached on a throwing and eventually scored as Karlee Hughes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 5-0 lead.

Hampton pushed a run across in the top of the fourth as with one out, Kylie Hill doubled to right and after a fly out Myiah Sutton doubled to left to plate Hill.

In the bottom of the inning, the Cougars took advantage of another Hampton error to score one run. Wrightsman scored on an RBI single from Austy Miller for a 6-1 lead.

Amani Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly by Cassidy Lee in the fifth to trim the deficit to 6-2. The hosts answered with a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Bricelyn Bedenbaugh which drove in Kennedy Rhue to push the lead back to 7-2.

Charleston scored three more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game by the run-rule as Leela Langston ended the game with a run scoring single to plate Rhue for the 10-2 final.

Hampton had hits from Aitirhina Aiken, Lee, Hill, Sutton and Johnson in the opener. Hughes paced Charleston going 3-for-3.

GAME 2 - College of Charleston 7, Hampton 1
Hill got Hampton on the board in the top of the first with a two-out solo home run for the early 1-0 advantage.

Miller and Hughes topped Charleston in game two going 3-for-3 each with a double and a run driven in. The Cougars put up three runs in the second inning on an RBI single from Leela Langston, a bases loaded walk to Sitterding and a sacrifice fly by Paradis.

Carmynn Bonner, Megan Ramos, Hill and Lee had a hit apiece for Hampton.

Hampton returns home on March 14 to start a three-game series with Elon beginning with a 1 p.m. game.
