NORFOLK, Va. (Sept. 23, 2025) … The Hampton University volleyball team dropped a non-conference match with Norfolk State Tuesday night 3-0 in the "Battle of the Bay."

Hampton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead Tuesday night courtesy of an attack error followed by a kill from Racquel Frazier. The Pirates extended that lead early in the set seeing their lead grow to 11-7 following a 4-0 run capped off by back-to-back kills from Frazier. After a timeout, the Spartans quickly erased the Pirates lead, taking a 18-15 lead late. Norfolk State capitalized on that momentum, taking set one 25-21. 

The Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in set two, forcing Hampton into a quick timout. Out of the break, rattled off four straight points to bring the match even. Katerina Pappa registered back-to-back kills, while the Spartans made two errors in this stretch, but it was Norfolk State once again going on a late run to take the second set. 

After falling down 7-2 early in the third set, Hampton rattled off a 7-1 run to take a 10-8 lead led by multiple kills from Pappa and Frazier. The two sides traded blows over the course of the match, but ultimately it was the Spartans executing down the stretch to take down the Pirates in three sets. On offense, Hampton was led by Frazier's 12 kills. Pappa added nine of her own, while Morgan Warren had 21 assists. On defense, Maria Clara Andrade led the Pirates with 12 digs and Lillian Campbell added two blocks.
