HAMPTON, Va. (March 22, 2026) … The Hampton University softball team dropped a 2-0 pitchers duel on Sunday to visiting Hofstra in the CAA series finale at a sunny HU Softball Stadium.
Hofstra scored in the second inning as Nicole Cancel singled and stole second with one out before scoring on a single by Chelsea Villar. After advancing to second on a throw home, Villar stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mackenzie Fitzgerald.
Hampton (6-19, 1-8) got runners to first and second in each of the last three innings, but couldn't find the one hit to push them onto the scoreboard.
Kamryn Brown and
Riley Bohanon had two hits apiece to lead a seven-hit attack for the Pirates.
Leah Maduro took the loss throwing a complete game with six hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Hofstra had six players with one hit each, while Madison Steppe took her second win of the weekend striking out eight.
Hampton is back home on Tuesday at noon with a doubleheader against UMES.
