Hampton University senior pitcher Travonna Byrd was named HU Athlete of the Week following her outstanding performance on the mound this past weekend.

Byrd (Newport News, Va.) recorded 16 strikeouts in 13 innings of work in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore. She struck out a season-high eight batters in each game, picking up her eighth and ninth wins of the season.

She gave up just seven hits in those two games.
