Kwame Morgan scored a season and game high 18 points but it proved not be enough for the Pirates as they drop a tough 80-54 decision at the hands of the Cavilers of the University of Virginia on Wednesday night.
Assisting Morgan on the night for the Pirates was
Charles Funches who recorded his third double-double of the season as he chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates.
Hampton (2-10) was outrebounded 41-26 with 17 of Virginia's rebounds coming on the offensive end. The Cavilers also made a season high 13 three-pointers as they were led by Sylven Landesberg who scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the victory.
Virginia opened the game on a 12-0 run during the first six minutes as the Pirates committed six turnovers.
Morgan would hit two three-pointers the closed the Cavilers gap to 15-8, but Virginia would respond with a 25-10 run.
The loss marks the fifth in a row for the Pirates as they will look to start the New Year off on the right foot. Hampton's next game is on Sunday, January 3 as they host the Rams of Fordham University. Game time has been set for a 6 pm tip-off.
