LADY PIRATES SET TO FACE DELAWARE STATE IN QUARTERFINALS

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Lady Pirates have advances to the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals and will take on Delaware State University. They will face the Lady Hornets on Thursday at noon in the LJVM Coliseum.

The Lady Pirates (14-15) only played Delaware State once in the regular season, pulling out a huge overtime win 68-64. Sophomore Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) led the team with 14 points and Ashlee Finley (Harrisburg, Pa.) had 11 rebounds to cap off the win.

Delaware State, the No. 3 seed, has not played yet this week and had plenty of rest and time to watch. The Lady Pirates, playing on the first day, have been able to shake all the jitters out of tournament play and focus.

Hampton has only played Delaware State twice in the MEAC tournament, both times in the championship game, where Lady Pirates were victorious. The first was in 2003, with Hampton defeating the Lady Hornets 69-57. In their only other tournament meeting in 2004, Hampton won 65-50.

The winner of this game will face No. 7 Florida A&M in Friday's semifinal round. Last year in the quarterfinals, the Lady Pirates lost in overtime to North Carolina A&T with a score of 74-71.
