PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Due to very wet conditions, making the field unplayable, along with the threat of more rain, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team has postponed their three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener for this weekend. The Lady Hawks were scheduled to open at home against the Hampton University Lady Pirates.
“The field is underwater,” said Head Coach Sam Douglass. “We decided to move the whole weekend series since tomorrow may bring more rain and storms.”
The conference series, originally scheduled for a double-header today and one game tomorrow, will now be played April 17th & 18th. UMES is already playing a non-conference double-header against Winston-Salem State on the 19th so the Hampton series will happen on Friday and Saturday.
The postponement of the series means that Hampton (14-14) will open conference play at home against Morgan State on April 4th & 5th with a start time of 12 noon on Saturday.
