HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team fell to Morgan State 10-1 in five innings Sunday afternoon at Lady Pirates Field.
The Lady Pirates (14-16, 1-2 MEAC) scored their only run of the afternoon in the second inning, when
Rebecca Magett (Grand Rapids, Mich.) doubled down the left field line to bring in
Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.). That run cut Morgan State's lead to 3-1 at that point.
The Lady Bears broke the game open in the top of the third inning, when Lydia Rodriguez hit an RBI double and Tamra Griffin brought her in with a two-run home run.
Morgan State would then add four more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Griffin added an RBI double, as did Kristin Gowan. Hannah Montgomery also had an RBI single in the frame.
Amanda Black (Hamilton, Ontario) struck out one and gave up six runs in three innings of work, picking up her ninth loss of the season. Megan Johnson of the Lady Bears struck out four in five innings.
