ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Hampton University softball team fell 8-0 to Florida A&M in five innings Friday evening in the 2009 MEAC Championship at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The loss eliminated the Lady Pirates from the tournament.
The Lady Rattlers only had three hits in the game, but took advantage of three Hampton errors. Florida A&M pushed across six runs in the first inning, thanks to two hit batters and two errors. Joyce Harold also had an RBI single in the frame.
Another error in the third inning led to a pair of Florida A&M runs; Jasmin Donaldson singled home a run before Rhianna Green brought home another run with a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Pirates (26-23) only had three hits on the evening, two of which came from Tiffany Brents (Chino Hills, Calif.). Amanda Black (Hamilton, Ontario) went four innings in the loss to go to 20-15 on the season. She gave up three hits and six runs, only three of them earned. She walked three and struck out none.
Florida A&M advanced to Saturday's championship game, where it will face Bethune-Cookman.
