LADY PIRATES TO FACE LADY AGGIES

The Hampton University women's basketball team (6-9, 2-2MEAC) looks for its third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win on the road, heading to Corbett Sports Center on Monday to take on the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T(9-7, 4-0 MEAC) at 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates defeated Norfolk State 63-59 in overtime on Saturday at Echols Hall. Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) led the Lady Pirates with a career-high 23 points on 9-for-23 shooting and 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman Breanna Jones (Springfield, Va.) added 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting and nine rebounds. Hampton shot 30.0 percent (24-for-80) from the floor, only committing 10 turnovers and out-rebounding Norfolk State 49-46.

The last time the two teams played, the Lady Aggies rolled to a 76-54 victory over the Lady Pirates in the MEAC championship game at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum. Hampton has lost its last seven meetings with the Lady Aggies; two of those games have gone into overtime.

North Carolina A&T went 26-7 and 15-1 in the MEAC to take both the regular-season and tournament titles last season. The Lady Aggies were predicted to finish first in the MEAC. Senior guard Ta'Wuana Cook is their leading scorer averaging 16.6 per game, while senior forward Lamona Smalley and junior guard Jaleesa Sams pour in 10.1 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.

The Lady Aggies are averaging 69.4 points on offense; however, they are allowing 69.4 points on defense. On the boards, the North Carolina A&T are grabbing 38.6 rebounds versus their opponents grabbing 37.1 per contest.

Since joining the MEAC in 1995, the Lady Pirates are 214-133 against schools in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Hampton has a winning record over every school in the conference except for Howard; the Lady Pirates are 16-20 all-time against the Bison,they are tied 14-14 all-time with Coppin State. The Lady Pirates are 17-5 against Bethune-Cookman; 22-12 against Delaware State; 16-10 against Florida A&M; 28-6 against Maryland-Eastern Shore; 18-11 against Morgan State; 45-33 against Norfolk State; 17-12 against North Carolina A&T; and 20-10 against South Carolina State. Hampton has won three MEAC regular-season titles (1999, 2003, 2004 with Delaware State) and two MEAC Tournament titles (2003, 2004).
