LADY PIRATES TO HOST JACKSONVILLE

HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's basketball team will look to return to its winning ways on Saturday, as the Lady Pirates welcome the Dolphins of Jacksonville University for a 2 p.m. tip-off.

Saturday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Hampton and Jacksonville.

The Lady Pirates (1-3), in their second season under head coach David Six, dropped their third straight game on Tuesday, when they lost in their home opener to Richmond 71-43 at the HU Convocation Center. Senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) led the Lady Pirates with 13 points, while junior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) and junior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) each added nine points.

The Dolphins (3-1) have won three straight games following Tuesday's 60-52 home win over Howard. Senior guard GiGi Thomas scored a team-high 17 points, while senior forward Taneskei Richardson recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Dolphins, returning seven players from last year's squad, were picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Sun this season. Despite all the returners, Jacksonville lost five seniors from the 2009-10 squad, and this year's team features six freshmen. The Dolphins posted double-digit wins for the fifth straight year last season, going 10-20 and 8-12 in conference play.

Thomas leads four Dolphins in double figures, averaging 12.3 points per game so far this season, while Richardson is second in scoring at 11.0 points a game while pulling down a team-high 11.3 rebounds per contest. Junior guard Crystal Bell is averaging 10.8 points a game, and junior guard Ashanti Williams is pouring in 10.5 points per game.

The Dolphins are averaging 71.8 points per game, while giving up just 64.0 points a contest.

Saturday's game will also mark the first time that the Lady Pirates will face a team currently in the Atlantic Sun Conference – Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, East Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State, South Carolina Upstate, Stetson, Belmont, North Florida, Mercer and Campbell.
