BOWIE, Md. –
The Hampton University softball team picked up a trio of wins over the weekend at the Lady Bulldogs Classic, hosted by Bowie State University at Lady Bulldogs Field on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Pirates (11-19) have won four straight games.

Hampton opened with a 15-10 win over Bowie State on Saturday, in a game which saw a combined 30 hits and 12 errors. The game was tied at 10 after seven innings, and the Lady Pirates took advantage of international extra-inning rules to score five runs in the top of the eighth inning.

After Rebecca Magett (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was placed on second base, Bre'Anna Brown (Los Angeles, Calif.) led off the inning with an RBI single and advanced to third on an error. Jada Jeffries (Lithonia, Ga.) followed later in the inning with a two-run single of her own, and two more runs scored when Adrianna Scott (Laurel, Md.) reached on an error.

Travonna Byrd (Newport News, Va.) struck out two batters in the bottom of the eighth, holding Bowie State scoreless to pick up her third win of the season.

Kelsei Saunders (Suffolk, Va.) hit her seventh home run of the season in the win, and she was one of four Lady Pirates to have three hits. Scott, Jeffries and Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.) also had three hits each, with Scott driving in four runs and Jeffries bringing home three.

The Lady Pirates followed that on Saturday with a 14-3, five-inning win over Lincoln (Pa.). After Lincoln scored a run in the top of the first inning on a bunt single from Mariah Liberty, Hampton answered by scoring all 14 of its runs in the bottom half of the inning. Cynammon Bell (Lithonia, Ga.) got things started with a grand slam to right field, before Jasmine Ables (Baltimore, Md.) hit an inside-the-park home run, her first of the season, to right field to bring home two more runs.

Tracy Lee (Gates, N.C.) added an RBI triple, while Nina Ferguson (Plymouth, Minn.) added an RBI single and Jeffries doubled home a pair of runs.

Jeffries went 3.1 innings, picking up her sixth win of the season after striking out eight and only giving up three hits. Tiffany Brents (Chino Hills, Calif.) also recorded a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning of work.

The Lady Pirates had nine hits overall, while also taking advantage of six Lincoln errors.

Hampton closed out play on Sunday by edging Bowie State 5-4, with Saunders bringing in the winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bowie State had a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, before the Lady Pirates scored four times to take a 4-3 lead. Scott got things started with a sacrifice fly. Estep would then score on a wild pitch, before Magett cranked a two-run home run, her first of the season, to left field.

Elizabeth Slater homered to left-center in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.

Byrd went the distance on the mound to pick up her fourth win of the season, striking out eight and giving up seven hits. Brooke Boykin (Riverside, Calif.) led the Lady Pirates at the plate, going 2-for-4.
