LADY PIRATES LOOK TO PREY ON LADY HAWKS IN MEAC TOURNEY

Game Notes

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 2 seed Hampton University women's basketball team (17-11, 12-4 MEAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when they face the No. 7 seed Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (12-15, 8-8 MEAC) at 10 a.m. at the L. Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in the quarterfinals of the 2010 MEAC Championships. 

The Lady Pirates made it three wins in a row Thursday evening, defeating the Lady Bison of Howard 55-43 at the HU Convocation Center to celebrate Senior Night and close out the regular season. Melanie Warner led the team with a career-high 21 points and team-high four steals. Jericka Jenkins contributed with 10 points and a team-high six assists. UMES beat No. 10 seed Delaware State 52-45 on Tuesday in the first round of the MEAC Tournament. 

Maryland-Eastern Shore is coached by Fred Batchelor. The Lady Hawks were selected to finish second in the MEAC this season, but finished seventh. 

April McBride (6-0, F, New Rochelle, N.Y.) was incredible for UMES last season earning MEAC Player of the Week three times. She led the team in five categories and was the only player to start in all 30 games. She is currently leading the team in points, rebounds, and steals averaging 17.9, 8.5, and 1.9 per contest. McBride was selected to the First-Team MEAC Team.

Last Year MEAC Rookie of the Year Casey Morton (5-9, G, Mardela Springs, Md.) averaged 10.9 points per game, the only player to average double figures other than McBride in 2007-08. She currently averaging 9.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals a game.

 The Lady Hawks averages 59.7 points per game, but allows 62.6 points from their opponents. They are shooting 38.4 percent from the floor, while the opposing team is averaging 38.5 percent from the field. Maryland-Eastern Shore is out-rebounding its opponents by an average of 39.1-37.3 per contest.
