Results: Men | Women
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Hampton University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Maryland Eastern Shore Cappy Anderson Invitational on Saturday at the UMES Cross Country Course.
The Lady Pirates, behind the strength of four top-20 finishers, came in second overall in the team standings with 73 points, while the Pirates came in fourth in the men's standings with 111 points. St. Francis (Pa.) won both team titles.
Senior
Jasmin Branch (Hampton, Va.) paced the Lady Pirates with a 19:09.69 to finish seventh, followed by freshman
Devyn Thompson (Chicago, Ill.), who came in eighth with a 19:19.99. Freshman
Nichelle Harris (Rahway, N.J.) ran a 19:28.22 to finish 11th, and sophomore
Teshika Rivers (Greenbelt, Md.) came in 18th with a 20:18.96.
Sophomore
Shaquanda Gainey (Camden, N.J.) ran a 20:43.89 over the 5K course to finish 29th, while freshman
Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) finished 32nd after running a 21:05.82.
Senior
David Kimani (Kenya) led the Pirates by finishing eighth on the 8K course with a 26:09.38, while sophomore
Michael Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.) ran a 27:21.26 to finish 19th. Sophomore
Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) also came in the top 25, finishing 25th with a 28:12.95.
Freshman
Je'Von Hutchinson (Boynton, Fla.) ran a 28:40.34 to finish 31st, while freshman
Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.) came in 36th with a 29:30.12.
Freshman
Jaleel Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran a 30:45.05 to finish 38th.
Katie Cianci of St. Francis won the women's individual crown with an 18:41.80, while Chris Mills – also from St. Francis – took the men's crown with a course-record 24:52.70.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they head to Williamsburg, Va. for the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William & Mary.
