The Hampton University women's basketball team suffered its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game of the season on Saturday, as Bethune-Cookman came from behind for a 55-51 win at Moore Gymnasium.

The loss snapped Hampton's four-game winning streak.

Junior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) sank a pair of free throws with 5:02 to play to give the Lady Pirates (12-6, 5-1 MEAC) a 49-39 lead, but Bethune-Cookman closed the game on a 16-2 run, taking a 53-51 lead with 28 seconds left on a Jasmine Daniels 3-point play.

Daniels would hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to ice the game.

In the last 5:02, Hampton went 2-5 from the free throw line and 0-for-6 from the floor. The Lady Pirates' last field goal came at the 11:26 to play, on a 3-pointer from junior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) to give Hampton a 45-28 lead.

Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 17 points, while Warner added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Lady Pirates shot 32.6 percent (15-for-46) from the floor, 6-for-22 (27.3 percent) in the second half.

Jasmine Elum led Bethune-Cookman with 17 points, while Daniels added 11 points.

The Lady Pirates opened the game on a 19-8 run after Hamilton hit a 3-pointer with 9:23 remaining in the first half. Hampton would take a 27-18 lead into the half, thanks in large part to 10 points off of 11 Bethune-Cookman turnovers.
