LADY PIRATES LOOK TO REBOUND AT FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Monday, when they take on Florida A&M at the Lawson Center at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (12-6, 5-1 MEAC), in their second season under head coach David Six, had their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling 55-51 to Bethune-Cookman at Moore Gymnasium. Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 17 points, while junior forward Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 10 points.

Florida A&M (8-9, 4-2 MEAC) picked up its second straight win with an 80-75 win over Howard on Saturday at the Lawson Center. Junior guard Antonia Bennett led four Rattlers in double figures with 27 points, while junior guard Tameka McKelton added 17 points. Junior center Qiana Donald and senior guard Christian Rateree each added 10 points.

Hampton is 18-10 all-time against Florida A&M, having won three straight and six of the last seven in the series. The Lady Pirates won both of last season's meetings, beating the Rattlers 67-54 on Jan. 25, 2010 at the HU Convocation Center, before traveling to Gaither Gymnasium to grab a 65-48 win on Feb. 22, 2010. FAMU last beat Hampton on Jan. 12, 2009, a 68-59 decision in Tallahassee, Fla. The Rattlers won the first two meetings against Hampton in 1997, before the Lady Pirates went on to win five straight in the series. Hampton is 6-5 all-time against FAMU on the road.

The Rattlers went 18-11 last season, finishing fifth in the MEAC with a 9-7 record before falling to Howard in the MEAC Tournament. In returning three starters and five letterwinners this season, FAMU was picked to finish fourth in the MEAC this season.

McKelton, a Preseason First Team All-MEAC selection, leads the team with 18.0 points per game, while Bennett is pouring in 15.3 points per contest. Donald is pulling down a game-high 7.8 rebounds per contest.

The Rattlers are averaging 64.9 points per game on offense, while giving up 68.9 points a night.

So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 6-4 on the road, having defeated James Madison 69-64 in the first round of the Preseason WNIT before falling 76-64 at South Dakota State, 64-57 at Charlotte and 62-49 at Wake Forest. Hampton has also defeated Radford 52-51, East Carolina 69-63, Georgia State 74-44, Coppin State 76-56 and Morgan State 68-37 on the road. Six is 12-11 on the road for his career as a head coach.
