LADY PIRATES TAKE CARE OF COPPIN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team won its second conference game of the season on Saturday, beating Coppin State 76-56 at the Physical Education Complex.

Freshman guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va. ) led three Lady Pirates in double figures with 22 points on 7-for-19 shooting, making five of her nine 3-pointers. Freshman guard Chikilra Goodman (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) added 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Junior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) added a team-high five assists to eight points, and junior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) recorded five steals.

Coppin State opened the game with a 13-9 edge after Kyra Coleman hit a jumper with 9:44 left in the first half. But the Lady Pirates (9-5, 2-0 MEAC) went on an 8-0 run, taking a 17-13 lead at the 8:30 mark on a Hamilton 3-pointer.

Perry hit a layup with 27 seconds left in the half to give Hampton a 28-22 lead heading into the intermission.

A Jeanine Manley layup with 17:08 left to play brought Coppin State to within two, 31-29, before Hampton responded with a 16-5 run, taking a 47-34 lead with 11:52 remaining after a pair of free throws from Jenkins. After Leola Spotwood sank a layup at the 11:22 mark to cut Hampton's lead to nine, 47-38, the Lady Pirates went on a 10-2 run to take a 57-40 lead with 7:10 to play after a jumper from senior forward Laura Lewis (Dallas, Texas).

A Goodman 3-pointer with 2:08 to play gave Hampton its largest lead of the game, 74-53.

The Lady Pirates shot 47.3 percent (26-for-55) from the floor, making seven of their 13 3-point attempts. Hampton also made 17 of its 24 free throw tries and out-rebounded Coppin State 37-34.

Hampton shot 55.2 percent (16-for-29) in the second half alone.

Coppin State (2-10, 0-2) shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the floor, but only made nine of 19 free throw attempts. The Eagles turned the ball over 28 times, resulting in 28 Hampton points.

Manley led Coppin State with 15 points, while Carter added 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
