LADY PIRATES TO FINISH ROAD TRIP AT CHICAGO STATE

Game Notes

CHICAGO –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will conclude its long road trip on Monday, as the Lady Pirates take on Chicago State at the Emil & Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center at 8 p.m. EST.

The Lady Pirates (3-1) got back into the win column on Saturday with a 79-62 win over Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne – thanks to a career-high 29 points from senior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) and a double-double from junior forward Keiara Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) – 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

Dating back to Nov. 29, 2010, when Hampton defeated Radford 52-51, the Lady Pirates have won 27 of their last 31 games, despite losing 63-46 at Florida on Tuesday, and they have not lost back-to-back games since losing four straight from Nov. 15-27 of last season.

Chicago State (0-6) has lost six straight games to open the season, including a 67-35 defeat at Ohio University on Saturday.

The Cougars finished the 2010-11 season with a 24-10 record, going 11-1 in conference play to win the Great West regular-season crown, before advancing to the third round of the WBI. Chicago State, under ninth-year head coach Angela Jackson, returns two starters and four letterwinners from last year's squad.

Senior guard/forward Janay Dockery leads two Cougars in double figures in scoring, pouring in 12.2 points per game — to go along with a team-high 5.2 rebounds per contest. Freshman forward Paris Williams is averaging 10.8 points per game.

Chicago State is averaging just 46.3 points per game on offense, while giving up 76.5 points per contest. The Cougars are also being outrebounded by almost 10 per game.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Monday's contest at Chicago State will be Hampton's first against a school from the Great West Conference. The Lady Pirates have never faced New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), North Dakota, Utah Valley, Texas-Pan American, Chicago State or Houston Baptist.

Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are a combined 20-11 in road games over the past two-plus seasons — including a 60-37 win at Pitt, a 68-55 win at Jacksonville and Saturday's 79-62 win at IPFW.

Hampton went 11-4 on the road last season, including a stretch to close out the regular season in which Hampton won five straight road games. Hampton went 6-6 on the road in 2009-10, Six's first season at the helm.

Following Monday's contest, the Lady Pirates will return home, where they will make their 2011-12 home debut on Saturday against MEAC foe South Carolina State at 6 p.m. in the HU Convocation Center. It will be the first of three straight home games for Hampton.
