HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's basketball team used a record shooting effort from behind the arc to beat Maryland Baltimore County 75-47 at the HU Convocation Center Saturday evening.
The Lady Pirates (7-1) hit a school-record 14 3-pointers, beating their previous record of 12 against South Carolina State in the quarterfinals of last season's MEAC Tournament. Hampton went 14-for-31 from behind the arc, 45.2 percent.

Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) led Hampton with 26 points – 20 of which came in the second half – and 10 assists for her first double-double of the season. Jenkins went 5-for-8 from 3-point range.

Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) poured in 21 points, tying her career high with seven 3-pointers on the4 night. Sophomore forward
Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) recorded her second double-double of the season, tying her career high with 11 points, while adding a team-high 10 rebounds.
Bennett also had five steals.
The Retrievers took a 9-8 lead with 16:33 left in the first half after a layup from Tope Obajolu, but a McMillian 3-pointer at the 15:46 mark gave Hampton an 11-9 lead – and the Lady Pirates never relinquished the lead again.
Hampton led by as many as 18 in the first half, going up 42-24 with 51 seconds left in the half after Bennett sank a jumper. McMillian hit five of her 3-pointers in the first half, heading into the locker room with 15 points to lead all scorers as the Lady Pirates led 42-26 at the break.
UMBC scored four straight points to open the second half, cutting Hampton's lead to 42-30 after a jumper from Erin Brown at the 19:09 mark. The Lady Pirates answered with a 12-0 run, going up 54-30 with 15:40 left to play after Jenkins hit a jumper.
Jenkins scored 10 of Hampton's 12 points in that run, including a pair of treys.
Hampton's largest lead came with 3:41 to play, when freshman
Kenia Cole (Burtonsville, Md.) sank a 3-pointer to put the Lady Pirates up 75-38.
UMBC scored the last nine points of the game, but the Lady Pirates still held their fourth straight opponent under 50 points.
The Lady Pirates shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the floor, while also making nine of their 12 free throws. Hampton held a 48-38 advantage in rebounds, and the Lady Pirates scored 23 points off of 15 Retriever turnovers.
UMBC (5-5) shot just 27.9 percent (17-for-61) from the floor, hitting just four of its 15 3-pointers. The Retrievers also struggled at the free throw line, going just 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) from the charity stripe.
Brown and Obajolu led the Retrievers with 10 points each.
