DOVER, Del. – The Hampton University women's basketball team will hit the road on Monday evening, as the Lady Pirates square off against Delaware State at the Memorial Hall Gym at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Pirates (16-4, 8-1 MEAC) got back into the win column on Monday, beating Morgan State 74-60 at the HU Convocation Center in front of a national ESPNU audience. Senior guard
Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) led the way with 25 points and eight assists, while senior forward
Melanie Warner (Tallahassee, Fla.) added 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting.
Delaware State (4-17, 1-7 MEAC) lost its second straight game, and its 10th in the last 11 games, on Saturday, falling 84-66 to Norfolk State. Sophomore guard Tasia Bristow and freshman guard/forward Tierra Hawkins each had 21 points for the Lady Hornets.
Delaware State went 9-20 last season, finishing 10th in the MEAC with a mark of 5-11. The Lady Hornets, under 12th-year head coach Ed Davis, return two starters and four letterwinners from last year's squad, and Delaware State was picked to finish 10th in the MEAC this season.
Hawkins leads the team in scoring, pouring in 13.8 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest. Bristow is the only other player averaging in double figures with 12.3 points a contest.
The Lady Hornets are scoring just 56.2 points a game, while giving up 66.5 points a contest.
Hampton is 26-12 all-time against Delaware State, having won the six meetings between the two teams and 13 of the last 15. Delaware State last defeated Hampton on Feb. 9, 2008, 58-36 in Memorial Hall. Delaware State has never won more than three in a row against Hampton, and the Lady Pirates are 9-7 against the Lady Hornets in Dover, Del.
The Lady Pirates are 268-136 all-time against teams currently in the MEAC. Hampton has a winning record against every MEAC school. In addition, Hampton has won or shared regular-season MEAC titles four times (1998-99, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2010-11) and claimed five MEAC Tournament crowns (2000, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2011).

David Six, the Lady Pirates are a combined 25-13 in road games over the past two-plus seasons — including a 60-37 win at Pitt, a 68-55 win at Jacksonville, a 79-62 win at IPFW, a 66-39 win at Chicago State, a 71-63 win at Boston College, a 76-50 win at Coppin State, an 83-51 win at Morgan State and a 52-39 win at Howard.
Hampton went 11-4 on the road last season, including a stretch in which Hampton won five straight road games. Hampton went 6-6 on the road in 2009-10, Six's first season at the helm.
