	HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Longwood on Tuesday at the Lady Pirates Softball Complex, losing the first game 3-1 before losing the second game 5-4.
	
	The Lady Pirates (13-20) have still won nine of their last 17 games.
	
	Longwood took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning in the first game, thanks to an RBI single from Brooke Short and an RBI groundout from Jordan Cox.
	
	Senior 
Bre'Anna Brown (Los Angeles, Calif.) singled home a run in the bottom of the inning to put Hampton on the board and cut the Lancers' lead to 2-1.
	
	The Lancers (23-12) got another run in the top of the sixth, when Cox hit her ninth home run of the season to center field.
	
	Senior 
Travonna Byrd (Newport News, Va.) went all seven innings, striking out four and giving up just the three runs. Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate.
	
	The Lancers also opened up a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the second game on an RBI single from Tori Nishitomi and an RBI double from Megan Baltzell, before the Lady Pirates tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double from senior 
Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.).
	
	Baltzell gave the lead back to Longwood in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run to right field, before Hampton tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the frame. Estep was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run, before junior 
Shine Huwe (Green Bay, Wisc.) singled home another run.
	
	Courtney Long provided the deciding run in the top of the seventh with a homer to center field.
	
	Freshman 
Jailynn Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.), the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week, struck out four and walked just one in seven innings of work.
	
	Byrd, Huwe and junior 
Nina Ferguson (Plymouth, Minn.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Estep had three RBIs.
