LADY PIRATES RETURN HOME TO FACE MORGAN STATE

Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will return to the HU Convocation Center on Saturday to square off against the Lady Bears of Morgan State at 4 p.m. in their MEAC home debut.

The Lady Pirates (12-5, 3-0 MEAC) have won three straight games and eight of their last 10 after beating Howard 52-50 on Jan. 12 in Burr Gymnasium. Junior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) led the way with 19 points – 15 of which came in the second half – while senior forward Keiara Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) added 10 points and 16 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.

Morgan State (5-11, 2-1 MEAC) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 68-50 win over Savannah State on Monday. Senior guard Bianca Jarrett led the Lady Bears with 19 points, while sophomore guard Tracey Carrington added 15 points and sophomore guard Chyress Lockhart scored 11.

The Lady Bears went 6-24 last season, finishing 12th in the MEAC with a 3-13 record. Morgan State, in its eighth season under head coach Donald Beasley, returns three starters and nine letterwinners from last year's squad, and the Lady Bears were picked to finish 12th in the MEAC this season.

Jarrett leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds per contest. Carrington is averaging 11.6 points per game, while also grabbing a team-high 6.1 rebounds per contest.

Jarrett is fourth in the MEAC in scoring and sixth in assists, averaging 3.1 per contest.

Morgan State is averaging 61.9 points per game, while giving up 67.8 points a contest.

Hampton is 22-11 all-time against Morgan State, and the Lady Pirates have won the last four meetings — including both of last season's meetings. The Lady Bears last beat Hampton on Feb. 23, 2009, and the Lady Pirates are 13-2 against Morgan State at home.

Since joining the MEAC in 1995-96, the Lady Pirates have won five regular-season and six tournament titles — including each of the last three under head coach David Six. Hampton has a winning record against every MEAC team.

Hampton's first regular season title came in 1998-99, and the Lady Pirates first won the MEAC Tournament, and its corresponding NCAA bid, in 2000.

Under Six, the Lady Pirates are 32-6 at the HU Convocation Center over the past three-plus seasons — including a 9-1 record at home last season. Hampton's lone home loss last season came in overtime against Coppin State, 69-66 on Jan. 28.

So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 3-0 at home.
