The Hampton University women's basketball team will kick off a five-game road trip on Wednesday, squaring off against No. 15/18 LSU at 8 p.m. EST in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Lady Pirates (2-0) defeated Southern Miss 74-58 on Saturday, thanks to a career-high 25 points from senior forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) on 11-for-14 shooting. Senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) added 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

Sophomore guard Ryan Jordan (Manassas, Va.) added 11 points, while redshirt-sophomore forward Brielle Ward (Baltimore, Md.) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Tigers came into the 2013-14 season, their sixth under head coach Nikki Caldwell, with four returning starters. LSU went 22-12 last season, finishing sixth in the SEC with a 10-6 record and ending the season No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. LSU was picked to finish third in the SEC this season, and Plaisance was named Preseason All-SEC. She leads the team with 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Hampton is 1-0 all-time against LSU after last season's 67-58 win at the HU Convocation Center on Nov. 16, 2012. This will be the Lady Pirates' first-ever trip to Baton Rouge, La.

The Lady Pirates are 3-9 against schools currently in the SEC; they are 0-2 against Alabama, 0-1 against Arkansas; 1-2 against Florida; 0-1 against Georgia; 0-1 against Kentucky; 1-0 against LSU; 1-0 against Mississippi State; and 0-1 against Vanderbilt.

Hampton was 2-1 against SEC teams last year.

The Lady Pirates were 13-2 on the road last season, with their only road defeats being at Duke in the NCAA Tournament and at Virginia Tech. Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are 43-15 in road games over the past four seasons.

Hampton's success on the road has been a large part of the team's recent dominance in the MEAC; the Lady Pirates were a perfect 8-0 in road conference games last season.
