LADY PIRATES LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AT TEXAS STATE

Game Notes

SAN MARCOS, Texas –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Pirates square off against Texas State at 2 p.m. EST in the Oscar Strahan Coliseum.

It will be the second of five straight on the road for the Lady Pirates.

The Lady Pirates (2-1) fell 73-54 at No. 15/18 LSU on Wednesday night, despite a career-high 27 points from senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) and 19 points from freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Redshirt-sophomore forward Brielle Ward (Baltimore, Md.) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, her second straight game with double-digit boards.

Texas State (1-2) fell 63-50 at TCU back on Nov. 16, where senior guard Kaylan Martin led the way with 13 points and redshirt-sophomore center Kileah Mays added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bobcats came into the 2013-14 season, their third under head coach Zenarae Antoine, with four returning starters. Texas State went 10-20 last season, finishing tied for ninth in the WAC with a 4-14 record. Texas State was picked to finish ninth in the Sun Belt this season, and senior center Ashley Ezeh was a Preseason Second Team All-Sun Belt selection.

Sophomore guard Erin Peoples leads the Bobcats with 9.7 points per game.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Hampton and Texas State.

The Lady Pirates are 4-5 against schools currently in the Sun Belt; Hampton is 1-2 against Arkansas State; 1-0 against Troy; 0-2 against Louisiana-Lafayette; and 2-1 against Georgia State. Hampton has never faced Arkansas-Little Rock, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Texas State, or Texas-Arlington.

The Lady Pirates were 13-2 on the road last season, with their only road defeats being at Duke in the NCAA Tournament and at Virginia Tech. Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are 43-16 in road games over the past four-plus seasons.

Hampton's success on the road has been a large part of the team's recent dominance in the MEAC; the Lady Pirates were a perfect 8-0 in road conference games last season. The Lady Pirates fell at LSU in their road opener on Wednesday, their first regular-season road loss since Dec. 30, 2012 at Virginia Tech.
