LADY PIRATES HIT THE ROAD TO TAKE ON DREXEL

Game Notes

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will hit the road on Wednesday following a short hiatus, as the Lady Pirates take on Drexel at 7 p.m. in the Daskalakis Athletic Center in search of their third straight win.

The Lady Pirates (7-3) beat Bethune-Cookman 43-35 on Dec. 9 despite a cold shooting night, thanks to 16 points each from senior guard Nicole Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) and freshman guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Tate-DeFreitas added a career-high eight rebounds, while Hamilton grabbed a career-high eight steals.

The Dragons, in their 11th season under head coach Denise Dillon, were picked to finish second in the CAA this season and boast two Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mentions in sophomore guard Meghan Creighton and senior wing Fiona Flanagan.

Drexel (4-5) has won two straight games, and freshman forward Sarah Curran leads the team in scoring with 10.3 points a game, while Flanagan is grabbing a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest to go along with 9.2 points a night.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Hampton and Drexel.

Hampton is 13-16 against schools currently in the Colonial Athletic Association, going 1-0 against College of Charleston, 1-2 against James Madison, 1-2 against UNC Wilmington, 0-1 against Towson, and 10-11 against William & Mary.

Hampton has never faced Delaware, Drexel, Hofstra, or Northeastern.

The Lady Pirates were 13-2 on the road last season, with their only road defeats being at Duke in the NCAA Tournament and at Virginia Tech. Under head coach David Six, the Lady Pirates are 44-17 in road games over the past four-plus seasons. Hampton's success on the road has been a large part of the team's recent dominance in the MEAC; the Lady Pirates were a perfect 8-0 in road conference games last season.

So far this season, the Lady Pirates are 1-2 on the road.
